Holtger Motorsports WSORR Wheatland Race Report
Coleman, WI (June 5, 2008) - The three driver, two light buggy
team of Holtger Motorsports made the 11-hour haul, to Wheatland,
Missouri to begin the 2008 Lucas Oil World Series of Off-Road
Racing season. Stephanie Paitl is the pilot of the #144 VW-powered
Light Buggy, while Craig Paitl and Bryan Holtger share the
driving duties of the #100 Light Buggy. Both teams are sponsored
by Holtger Brothers, Catco, NAPA-Green Bay, Peshtigo National
Bank, Tuttle Woodworking Insurance Marketing Concepts, and
Goodyear Tire.
After a solid practice session on Friday, Holtger Motorsports
opted not to participate the final session on Saturday. The
buggies were gassed up and ready for anything the .7 mile long
off-road track could throw at them. Well almost anything.
Saturday night saw the Light Buggy race start while light rain
was falling. The track was already soaked and full of mud thanks
to a thunderstorm that passed through the area earlier in the
day. Nevertheless the show must go on. The track conditions
deteriorated so quickly that visibility for the racers was
almost zero and track safety workers could not perform their
duties properly. After three laps the race was stopped. WSORR
official were hoping to continue the remainder of the Light
Buggy race and the rest of the Round One program Sunday morning
before the Round Two action.
Sunday, the weather cooperated and Light Buggy-Round One was
completed. The track was still very muddy, but the track
gradually dried out as the racing continued. In Round One #100
Craig Paitl finished in eighth place and wife, Stephanie crossed
the line in sixteenth.
When #144 Stephanie Paitl and brother, Bryan Holtger,in the red
#100 Light Buggy took the track for Round Two,track conditions
were ideal for off-road racing. The race action was tight as all
eighteen racers were running at the finish. Stephanie Paitl
finished fourteenth and Bryan Holtger came home in seventh.
Here are a few comments from Holtger Motorsports after the
weekend of racing.
“Fortunately the officials stopped the race last night,”
commented Craig Paitl. “It really wasn’t safe to race out there.
It was a good call by WSORR.”
“The track was very technical, the limited amount of suspension
and power we run with really made the rhythm section hard on
equipment,” explained Stephanie Paitl. “There really wasn’t a
fast line through the whoops.”
“The track was awesome,” stated Bryan Holtger. “It was a true
driver’s track.”
